Senior Controls Engineer

Location: Hickory, NC

Salary: $100,000 – $115,000

We’re hiring a Senior Controls Engineer for a high-volume industrial converting operation in Hickory. This role supports production by maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving electrical and control systems critical to plant performance.

This is a hands-on position working directly on the floor with maintenance and operations. You’ll be responsible for keeping controls systems reliable, supporting up time, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

· Troubleshoot, repair, and commission industrial electrical and control systems

· Support PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, and drive systems

· Make software changes, backups, and parameter adjustments as needed

· Respond to controls-related production issues and downtime events

· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on controls and instrumentation

· Support equipment startups, shutdowns, and capital projects

· Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and blueprints

· Identify safety, quality, uptime, and efficiency improvement opportunities

· Track and support data related to equipment performance

Controls Experience (Several Required)

· PLC platforms including Rockwell and Siemens

· HMI platforms including PanelView, WinCC, or similar

· Industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus, or Profinet

· Motion control, servo systems, and industrial drives

Experience in converting, packaging, or web-handling equipment is a strong plus.

What We’re Looking For

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar

· 3–5+ years of hands-on PLC and HMI programming experience

· Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and controls

· Proven troubleshooting ability in a manufacturing environment

· Comfortable working independently and with cross-functional teams

· Willingness to support an on-call rotation

· Physically able to work in an industrial setting
